Though none of MILK's members are
native to Los Angeles, fate led them
there to coagulate under a common
goal: to carve out path for
alternative-psychedelia rock lovers.
Laced with electronic wizardry,
surreal lyricism, haunting melodies
and energetic live shows.
After a year and change
together, they've homogenized into a
powerful sound that has attracted
fans of Radiohead, BRMC and even
Pink Floyd. Ranging from the
starry-eyed ballads like
"Monochrome" to the fierce bravado
of "Down the Machine", MILK's music
spills over with passion. It seems
that no matter what they try, MILK
always finds supporters: their radio
friendly sound always attracts
audience along with the attention of
radios and TVs around the world.
Their highly energetic live shows
got them the admiration of both
professional and public. "The
difference between the L.A. scene
and the rest of the world", says
Eric Marx, singer-songwriter, "is
that people are so blasé, probably
because of the number of bands
playing here, that it becomes even
more exciting when they get into
MILK's show. This is really what I
want: this short but magic
interaction between us and the
public and this because of our
music. Nothing else: This is MILK."
After going through the usual
musician's hits and misses, Eric
Marx and co-writer/ keyboard player
Maeva Appert met their bandmates:
guitarist Marc Wallace, bass-player
Tim Lane Seaton and then drummer
Philippe Mathys.
The band was recently featured in
Rolling Stone Magazine with their
new album produced in Los Angeles
and Liverpool by Fran Ashcroft (Gorillaz,
Dandy Warhols, Damon Albarn). MILK's
new video "Fly" directed by Peter
Meyer is currently available for
free on CNET at
http://video.download.com, while the
band is promoting their new release
throughout Europe.
Angel: Okay, I have to ask...
why the name Milk?
Milk: Well, Milk is said to
be good for you...Ok. It has a
better image than...beer. It is
crossover and smooth.
Nourishing and essential. We all had
it at one point and Shirley Manson
couldn't be the only one...
Angel: Will you be touring
the US?
Milk: In time, yes we would
love to. There are lots of war
stories around the theme... When we
do so, we will try
not to add ours. I mean, we would
like to be able to play without
interference...I asks for some
organization and... money : the
better the former, the lesser the
last. We are right now promoting
this new release throughout Europe
and England.
Angel: Your sounds are very
unique ... was it difficult to put
this band together and mesh in a way
so that it would work?
Milk: Yes and no: there are
so many excellent musicians in L.A.!
In the end, it just comes down to
the vision you
have, what you want to do and
express with music -style wise-, and
whether the guys you meet can fit
the bill... You have to have you
write or arrange a song. Ideas come
and... go. Also, you feel like, well
you belong to the same
family. So, some differences, yes,
but a lot in common. In fact we try
to mix in our sounds a lot of stuff
we love. The fact we've recorded the
album in Liverpool and L.A. with
Fran Ashcroft (Gorillaz, Dandy
Warhols) was really a big plus. Fran
did a great job and definitely
pushed the band's envelope.
Additional Comments: We are
really excited by the fact this new
album and our vid "FLY" are now
played around the world. We have
radios, TVs and magazines of course
in the US and Australia but also in
England, Italy, The Netherlands,
everywhere in Europe in fact. These
are cool and busy time.
